Arcade Art's 8 Bit Pixel Creations

My friend ArcadeArt is, in a word, bitchin'. I invited her to some of the Perler bead spriting communities back in October or so, and boy, am I glad she made herself known on the scene. These Boo coasters, cutely labeled Ghosters, are among my favorites of her work. The jaunty, spray painted design adds a real urban edge. They are glossed, and reversible, $7.50 a piece, via Etsy.

What I love about Arcade Art's work is that she always is experimenting with alternative mediums. Another project I really enjoyed was her collaborative effort to convert modern gaming characters to old school 8 bit game covers. They've created custom sprites and aged the images to look as though they've survived the 80s. My favorite is the Half Life but all of 'em are pretty impressive:

The cards come with three sprites from their respective games, $20.

These lino block prints were the first items to really catch my eye when I first browsed her Flickr page. Truly inspired! $20 a piece.

"Twins". A Lucas and Claus painting. I don't know that this is available anymore, but I'm sure she'd be willing to recreate any of these pieces.

Fuck yeah.

If you're not the art-mounting type (and I don't mean that sexually, sickos), then you can always get a keychain! While I'm not a keychain kind of girl (something about weighing down my ignition just kills it for me), I could see myself rockin' one of these. I like their googly eyes.

There are more than a few scathing jokes in the bead spriting circles about being commissioned for a mundane, over-done Tanooki Mario. I mean, what Perler artist *hasn't* been asked to make a Tanooki? But this, this is real art. The textures and leaf accents are stunning and turn a kitschy nostalgic piece into something you can showcase in your home.

You can find out more at Arcade-Art.com or ArcadeArt's Etsy or Flickr page!

Isn't she talented? Which is your favorite? Oh and Arcade Art if you're reading this, I'd LOVE to see what you can do with imprints into plaster!
