Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Michael Lynton Hates The Internet
Aw, would you look at that twinkle in his eye. You'd almost think he had a clue!
Here we have a major CEO who doesn't understand the power of globalization and creating a solid consumer base through easily accessible media. Consider my mind blown. Seems the old watch is still resistant to change:
"I'm a guy who doesn't see anything good having come from the Internet...(The Internet) created this notion that anyone can have whatever they want at any given time. It's as if the stores on Madison Avenue were open 24 hours a day. They feel entitled. They say, 'Give it to me now,' and if you don't give it to them for free, they'll steal it." via Cnet
Right, 'cause just EVERYONE on the Internet is spoiled and selfish and just steals as they please. Or not. I for one don't pirate or steal off the Internet, because I like to support the artists/programmers/developers who release the things I enjoy, most of whom are broke without our support.
Its obvious that Sony has failed considerably because of their refusal to embrace new technology...so given that tidbit, this statement shouldn't surprise me at all. I can't tell if he's upset because the Internet has challenged him to do his job better, or because more power has been extended to the artists they routinely rip off.
While Sony is complaining, companies like Apple are out there finding ways to work with it. Looks like nobody taught Sony "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em".
