Some Thoughts On Diablo III
As some of you may know, the release of Diablo III for me ends a decade long love affair with its predecessor, one that kept me going through a bout of post high school poverty, a bad breakup, and a litany of other things I still drink to forget. Diablo II was one of my first PC games and while my expertise by no means makes me the sole authority on the third, I do of course have some...

Tomb Raider Reboot Delayed Til 2013
The Tomb Raider reboot (which you may remember, I’m somewhat a fan of) won’t be joining us this holiday season. In a statement on the official Eidos message board, Crystal Dynamics Head of Studio Darrell Gallagher announced news of the delay, saying:
“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move...

How Fallout 3 Started A Flame In My Heart →
(Reposted from my Fallout blog, http://www.winnersusedrugs.com)
There’s a reason that this blog fell back to my Fallout fandom when I bought the domain. In many ways Fallout 3 was my transition into “hardcore” gaming. At some point in professionally blogging about games I realized I needed to expand my perspective as a gamer, and to do that, I needed to adopt a more open mind. If there’s...

The Oatmeal: Is it just a Steam thing? →
oatmeal:
I don’t really play console games, but when I used to play xbox 360 what I heard inside my headset was primarily “OMG FAG FUCK YOU DIE FAGNIGGER ASSPICKLE COCKTHUNDER FAG ASSPICKLE etc,” or some variation thereof. I started playing on Steam about a year ago, and people who speak into their mics…
Apology accepted. You’re in Seattle and cute and apparently humble do I get...
The Oatmeal: My comic about online gaming as a... →
Well I guess we can take away one thing from this comic: The Oatmeal has never pretended to be a girl in an online game. That’s positive, I guess?
I wish his reality represented my reality, ‘cause gaming online would be a lot more fun.
oatmeal:
A lot of people seem grumpy about my latest comic about online gaming as a girl.
I wasn’t implying that girls suck at games. I was...

Wherein I Ponder My Own Relevancy To The Industry
I received a very nice compliment today from a Destructoid reader, and it has me a little thrown for a loop.
Gamer Grrlz, despite being around for almost four years now, isn’t that popular, something that has never bothered me much. I know I have a limited audience, given my content and who it’s geared towards, and I spend zero time promoting myself or trying to make this blog a...
cogsandgears asked: also WHO FREAKING CARES ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY SYSTEM. NO ONE. THE WHOLE THING IS JUST AN INSIDE JOKE FOR PEOPLE WHO DRIVE IN LA. honestly they are completely welcome to screw over the state, i don't even give a fuck.
cogsandgears asked: i gave them a 10 for effort but a 1 for execution. the game play is still GTA no matter how you dress it up with clue hunting (i skipped all driving sequences too, which screwed me over when i got redirected by radio calls). the interrogation mechanics were shoddy-there's basically no difference b/t doubt & lie, & my damning evidence shouldn't be less useful if i present it at...
cogsandgears asked: i had some SERIOUS problems with the Black Dahlia case too, honestly. i would have liked a little more explanation on why this dude was killing people beyond, you know, it was for fun? and the message of "hey men, you better watch after your ladies because when they drink too much and talk to men and be independent they get SERIAL MURDERED and show up NAKED" just tasted awful. and uh,...
cogsandgears asked: omg thank youuu for agreeing with me about how LA Noire is pretty much complete crap. like everything after the Traffic desk was annoying to me.
