Plus a new title for 2019 and it’s all a great fit for firm’s consumer product strategy

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will be making the move to PC and Switch this year – according to Max Arguile at GB Eye, a merchandising firm that’s working with the brand. It’s not the first time Crash has ventured onto either platform, but it looks to be a great fit for the Switch and should sell well.

Arguile also mentioned a new game for 2019 – though whether that’s entirely new, built from the ground up, or instead a port of some of the later games in the series is unknown. Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy includes all three of the original trilogy made by Naughty Dog (of Uncharted fame), but a remaster of the studio’s Crash Team Racing game may make sense, but seems a thin offering compared to the trilogy. Because of that we’re presuming it’s an all new game.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was always set to do well, but it’s fair to say that it blew everyone’s expectations as it just kept on selling month-after-month. It eventually racked up a No.6 position in the UK’s top-selling physical titles of 2017 – that’s four places higher than Horizon Zero Dawn to give some comparison.

The mid-priced title most likely sold excellently digitally as well, especially as its somewhat surprising success meant boxed copies were in short supply soon after its release.

“The new game was a huge success at retail with no marketing spend. Next year it will be going broader (Switch and PC) and there will be another game in 2019. Activision have a five-year plan for thisand GB Eye is delighted to be fully on board for all products.”

Activision has been slimming the number of releases and franchises it deals with over the last decade. However, it’s been keen to boost its consumer products and Crash would sit well alongside its other properties in this respect. Maybe we’ll even get a film in due course.
