This marks Soedesco’s first physical Switch release, with plenty more to come

D-Pad Studio’s pixel platformer Owlboy will be heading to retail courtesy of publisher Soedesco on May 29th for PS4 and Switch, several months after its February 13th digital release. The game originally launched in November 2016 on PC and was received very well by critics, with a Metacritic score of 88. This came after almost a decade-long development cycle, almost as long as those of The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy XV.

This will be Soedesco’s first physical release on Switch, though the company’s executive manager, Hans van Brakel, has plans for more: “We’ve had to keep quiet about this for some time, but now I can finally announce our first physical Switch game! Owlboy is a really great title to start off our Switch line-up with, but we’ve certainly got more coming up.”

The Switch has been a fantastic platform for indies so far, with several developers revealing that sales on the console are easily outpacing those on other platforms like PS4 and Xbox One. Whether that will continue as the content library grows fatter remains to be seen, but it does feel like the Switch is the new home for smaller titles that aren’t necessarily your first thought when you think about being tethered to your 4K TV.
