Be My 8 Bit Valentine

Pac-Man themed chocolate lollipops, featuring two Pac-Mans, one milk chocolate and dark chocolate/black walnut striped with encrusted walnut, one cheesecake and raspberry striped; and four ghosts, red/cherry, pink/strawberries and cream, white/salt water taffy, and light brown/hot cocoa. $22.00, Etsy

Since I keep getting tons of hits for “Mario cake pops” and “Street Fighter condom” through Google this week, I figure gamers are gearing up for a big sloppy Valentine’s Day this year. And I present this collection, via Etsy, of geekcraft V-Day finds.  We’ll start things off with my latest creation in molded chocolate.

She’s Crafty

Oh the things you’ll do…while suffering from insomnia. I’ve been geek craftin’ in the middle of the night lately. I haven’t had to be accountable for my schedule the past week, and so my days consist mostly of four hour naps sandwiched between writing, crafting, not checking the mail, gaming, avoiding the overflowing garbage, and downing trashy wine spritzers. Case in point: but an hour ago I discovered there’s a foot of snow outside. There wasn’t earlier today, of course, but somewhere along the line I simply stopped looking out the window, and blammo, snow. Guess I know what I’ll be doing for a few days yet while I wait the three months it will take for the city of Seattle to plow me out.

Most of these projects were completed some time around 3 AM. Right now I’m experimenting with molded chocolate, and still messing around with polymer clay. Got some new plans for Perler stuff coming up soon. The picture up top is a pastel candy chip set of molded chocolate lollipops I did, the first of many themes I plan to try out. I want to experiment with a few techniques, maybe see what I can do with rice cereal, dried fruit, nuts, wafers, or peanut butter filling.

I’m really digging the pins I’ve been making lately. Above are GLADoS core spheres, in curiosity, intelligence, and anger. Below are my Mega Man and Red Ring Of Death pins. They are tiny but oh so cute, I love wearing them on my lapel. Er, uh, I mean, admiring them in a little box until they sell.

This set is features vanilla, light cocoa, dark cocoa, and peanut butter Ghost pops, with a vanilla-peanut butter-dark cocoa layered Pac-Man, and a peanut butter-dark cocoa one too.

This next one isn’t really new, I just sold one recently and I’m hoping someone buys another one before I inevitably complete and ship another, only to sell another the next day. Happens everyfuckingtime.

A 16 Bit Mock Up For The (Angry) Birds

“Have you played Angry Birds?” “You’ve played Angry Birds, right?” “What, you haven’t played Angry Birds?” “You like HAVE to download Angry Birds, seriously! OMG like Angry Birds is great ANGRY birds ANGRY BIRDS ANGRY BIRDS!@*&!%$ %”

Sound familiar? If you decide to buy a smart phone it’s gonna. I just got myself a Droid Incredible and I hear more about the damn Angry Birds than I do the phone’s hardware. Despite my dangerously high levels of Annoyed To The Point Of No Longer Giving A Hot Holy Damn, though, this 16 bit conception has warmed the cockles of my dead, dead heart. Retaining much of the mobile phone original, the series is merely a mock up,  but a fun one nonetheless.

When Geekcrafters Swap

Thought you guys might like to see the loot from a recent craft swap. I was able to trade my Protoman piece for a fused glass pendant by Fortesgospel, and my Chun Li vs. Mai piece for some Hama mini bead items from Bamiyan. As you can see above, the size difference between those Perler and Hama versus the mini Hama is remarkable. The Link to the Past fairy is a much more suitable size for a barrette and I plan to find smaller pin backings for the red diamonds so I can wear those on my clothes. I nearly caused a riot in the Crossroads Mall last time I wore them, and I want to see if I can kick up a fuss again.

This swap was a great chance for me to really check out those mini Hama beads, which as you can see are much better for jewelery and other items due to their size.

It’s funny that something I saw on the Internet for months is now sitting in my living room just waiting to be worn. Bonus: I didn’t have a chain for this necklace but can probably use the one Bamiyan sent with my pixel heart necklace. Score!

Skate Invaders

These were posted at the Mekanism Skateboards site without description, so I’ll have to make one up for you. A man, once disguised as a young Nixon but now no long concerned with his concealing his identity, is ripping apart Rubix cubes to assemble Space Invaders art on skateboards. We know not why, just that it looks cool.

Monster Hunt Meets Final Fantasy With These SNES Inspired Sprites

Any of my fellow bit-brains out there seen these before? They showed up mysteriously on Capcom-Unity and the post author, Snow, didn’t know where they came from. It’d be nice to stalk the person who made them until they surrender their spriting secrets give the artist kudos directly. They could not have captured the Final Fantasy feel more perfect.

(Geek) Nailed It

Fake nails don’t really jive well with the button mashing lifestyle of the modern female gamer, but eh. I appreciate the thought all the same. These are much, much, much, MUCH MUCH much much, better than a certain other set I’ve featured here before. Much.

…much

$15.00, by Geek Nails.

Not gonna lie, love these both.

Lost Lovingly Recreated In 8-Bit

Tomorrow marks two official weeks since Lost aired its last episode. And I think I’m finally ready to move on. For awhile there, I was waking up at 7 am, getting that melancholy “we’re about to kill someone you love” piano music stuck in my head, picturing Jack stumbling through those bamboo stalks…yeah. The combination can be insomnia inducing. I don’t know what upset me more, Jack’s ultimate demise or the utter slap in the face the flash sideways universe turned out to be.

But now, I’ve gone through all four stages of grief (disbelief, anger, depression, and booze) and I’m feeling ready to finally post this. Flickr user Hot Meteor made this as a loving tribute to the show, even going so far as to create a mock-up cartridge.

Can you imagine if this were a real game? You wouldn’t even have to finish, like, half the quests. You could just leave them unfinished and open ended, and if anyone asks why, you say you’re supposed to enjoy the relationships.

Hey! You Got Your NES In My SNES!

I’d say our grandfathers would roll in their graves to see a dual NES/SNES hacked together in such a fashion, but, that doesn’t work, since NES generation is my generation. So I guess if I were dead, or at least, died at age eight, I would be doing some barrel rolls right now in my coffin.

The 26 year old very much alive me, however, loves this. Not only is it cheap at a rock bottom fifty bucks, but it also plays “most” Japanese imports. For purchasing, check out the ThinkGeek link below.

Can’t Read His Pixel Face

Since I’m super tired trying to pull weight at The Tanooki in preparation for E3, this is a repost. It’s like when you were a kid and your Mom would tell you that dinner was leftovers that night, and she’d try to sound all apologetic but really she wasn’t. Yeah, like that. You’ll get what you get and like it.

This T shirt design explains perfectly why Mario would never be a participant on Cops. We already know him by that face. Entitled Name Suppression, you can pick this up for $19.95. From Glennz Tees.

Dr. Mario Rap Teaser From 8-Bit Duane

My fellow foul mouthed bit brain 8-Bit Duane (you remember him, don’t you?) has a new rap coming out soon, this one based on Dr. Mario. Here’s a teaser.

“Press X To Jason” Is Parody Magic

In a GamesRadar’s recent article, “Games Summed Up In Five Words”, under Heavy Rain were: “Jason! Jaaason! JASON! Jason! Jaaason!” I couldn’t say it better myself. But someone else found a way, with Press X To Jason. If you want the Heavy Rain experience, minus the quick time events, gorgeous cinematics, and action-thriller story, this is it—the moment in the game where your underlying sense of panic and frustration is greatly heightened with the realization that pressing X to “JASON!” doesn’tdoagoddamnthing. Relive the magic, or experience it for the first time, with Press X To Jason.
