Well, war may never change in the Fallout universe, but in THIS one, the war over Bethesda’s rights to the series is finally over. Interplay, the makers behind the Fallout 1, 2, and Tactics, have given up their bid to continue work on the Fallout MMO, instead accepting a $2 million dollar settlement in exchange for distribution rights on the first three titles for at least another year. The decision, a bid to keep both sides out of a costly legal battle, will see Bethesda retain all ownership post-2013. Said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media, Bethesda’s parent company:
“While we strongly believe in the merits of our suits, we are pleased to avoid the distraction and expense of litigation while completely resolving all claims to the Fallout IP,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media. “Fallout is an important property of ZeniMax and we are now able to develop future Fallout titles for our fans without third party involvement or the overhang of others’ legal claims.”
And so, the hard-to-conceptualize-but-fuck-I’ll-play-it-anyway MMO is not meant to be. Probably for the best. Is anyone genuinely disappointed by this?
This gif was a gift for me from my awesome friend Reicker, just trying to make up for the hipster instagram picture of his legend of zelda tattoo. haha.

Este gif fue un regalo para mí de parte de mi maravilloso amigo Reicker, que trata de compensar su foto super hipster de su tatuaje de Zelda, jaja.
Can’t believe I haven’t posted these yet. There’s a fantastic Fallout 3 mod known as Underground Hideout, and it’s among the most downloaded. And with good reason. It gives you a lair that has, among other things, an extensive display wall for your weapons.
There’s a section for “regular”, crafted, and storage, and another area for all expansion unique weapons and the unique armor from Operation: Anchorage. I decided to obtain every last unique weapon in the game and this was the perfect way to show it off. The only item not pictured is the Mesmetron, which for some reason disappears when I try to put it on its slot on the wall (bug, I’m guessing).
I’ll be posting a gallery of screen shots shortly. Stay tuned.
As fun as playing all the different Fallout mods has been, I’m almost ashamed to admit that one of the funnest has also been one of the simplest. One modder took it upon himself to insert Pyramid Head, the freaky Silent Hill baddie who lurks in an abandoned Grayditch building until you stumble across his lair, triggering his undying wrath.
This mod has exactly the effect it should. Not only is the opening cut (and I do mean cut) scene freakin’ awesome, but it’s surprising how well the modder was able to use the available items to make it resemble him.
You walk into the building to see two victims, one hanging and one kneeling. Pyramid Head makes quick work of them both, then turns his blade on you.
From then on, every time he is killed, he will respawn in Grayditch and proceed to hunt you down and find you. Frankly, it’s terrifying. In some places you’ll get somewhat of a warning, if you have the benefit of being out in open space, but more often than not, you will spend hours minding your own business, only to exit a building or head down a staircase and OMG WTF HE’S RIGHT THERE. I’ve taken screen shots of the pants-shitting experience for posterity:
Yeah, that’s on the Adams Air Force Base. Even secret entries through obliterated government buildings and a long trek through a subway system will not stop him. Your sole consolation is that it does take him at least a little while to trek all the way from Grayditch, so the respawn rate generally isn’t a problem. Many users, however, complain about not being able to kill him permanently and/or loot his body (both of which didn’t really bother me). You may also find the white flash after every kill either confusing, annoying, too time consuming, or some combination of the above.
Combined with other mods, this addition has the potential to turn the Wasteland into your own private version of Hades. You can use the Outbreaks Wasteland Mood Series mod to add a red hued Hell theme to the look. And with music mod Existence 2.0, you could take the phrase “eery atmosphere” to new terrifying heights.
