Need some new Avatar duds? Threadless has got you digitally covered! The Xbox Live Arcade now has Threadless T-shirts and sweatshirts, 16 for your male Avatar, and 8 for female.
Unlike the real Threadless, the male and female markings are set in stone; you won’t be able to use a shirt that’s designated for the opposite sex. I guess it’s difficult for pixel T-shirts to make room for pixel boobs. Or something. But whatever your gender, the T-shirts go for 80 Microsoft Points, sweatshirts for 160, and all are available now on Xbox Live Arcade.
Whee! This is good news for people who like having boxes to put on shelves. Alan Wake’s upcoming PC release is not just a digital one. The option to buy a physical copy is available too. Says Lars Wingefors, CEO of Nordic Games GmbH:
“It goes without saying that we are very happy and proud to work together with some of the greatest talents and artists of the games industry. We are really looking forward to the PC version of Alan Wake, especially as we are talking about a fantastic PC adaptation thereof, rather than a mere porting of the code. We will talk about this in more detail in the upcoming weeks.”
Oh, and if you were wondering (I was!), both the digital and physical copies will contain the two DLC chapters “The Signal” and “The Writer”, making this not just an exciting release but a bit of a bargain too.

when do zombies like to hunt for brain, and do people ever run and scream when you are trying to steal their brains?

Dear Jackie-baby,
Let Zombie answer your question with question: Why you not know how to use shift key? You expect to get into college with typing like that? Pfft. Maybe clown college.

And Here I Thought I Couldn’t Be Any More Disappointed With EA
I guess I haven’t been to the Sims 3 store in some time, because this is the first I’m seeing this: The Sims 3 Iams Pet Starter Kit. The page is accompanied by the text:
Start your pet on the right track today! Do you love your pets? Yes? Well we do too! So do our friends at Iams!
No. Iam does not love pets. Iams has persistently been experimenting on animals for decades, and their actions have been among the most cruel. The last time they got caught they made a bit of progress in how they treat their subjects, but they are still far from humane, and refuse to allow their facilities to be evaluated. It’s disheartening to see EA partner with Iams, when such partnerships continue to perpetuate the myth that Iams can be trusted to provide the best for our animals. While they claim their studies are only in the interest of nutrition, I don’t know that I’d trust my pet’s health in the hands of a company who can’t be bothered to treat their 700 test subjects with any decency.
Remedy has confirmed a release window for the upcoming PC version of Alan Wake! On the forums yesterday a list of answers for their most frequently asked questions was posted, and among them, the date for Alan Wake’s Steam debut. Keep an eye on February 2012!
Some other details: no Mac compatibility, bundle deals are currently being worked on, the game will NOT use Games For Windows Live (Steam only!), it will be Xbox controller compatible, and there will be no demo version. If you want to check out more details, head over the Remedy forums.
I don’t know if any of you remember when I played the Dear Esther Source mod a few months ago, but if you thought it forgettable then (likely due to its graphics), you may want to pay attention now.
More an experience than a game, Dear Esther is one of the most haunting mods I’ve ever played, due mostly to the narration. This official release will add vivid landscapes that are almost too gorgeous for words, making the $9.99 pricetag on Steam seem like a bargain. February 14 can’t come soon enough…I’m in love already.
Vancouver Film School To Offer Fourth Annual Women In Games Scholarship
For the fourth year in a row, the Vancouver Film School is offering the Women In Games Scholarship. The program provides tuition for up to $49,250 for the VFS’ one year Game Design Program, awarded to the most suitable female applicant. Says Head of Game Design at VFS, Dave Warfield:
“Once again I am proud to be a part of our annual Women in Games Scholarship. Our past winners have gone on to do amazing things in the game industry once they graduated, and we expect more great things from our most recent winners…Supporting the growth of women in games is something that I feel strongly about; it benefits the industry to gain new perspectives, creativity, and passion that is reflective of how gaming has changed and expanded in the past 5 years.”
Application details will be given at the at the Game Design Open House on January 22. At the event, there will also be an opportunity to learn about more scholarships for both men and women in the gaming field, available from companies such as G4TechTV and Microsoft/BigPark. Dead Island DLC lives on, this time with a story based chapter that puts a fresh spin on an old foe.
