Public Service Reminder: Mass Effect 3 Demo Out Now

You know, i thought the 11-11-11 release date for Skyrim was kinda clever, but this is just brilliant. Releasing a Mass Effect 3 demo on the day of love. I’ll bet some of you have big plans tonight…now.
Head over to PSN or XBLA to check it out.

PSN Officially Back Online

Sony has just announced the phased restoration of Playstation Network online. In a video announcement placed on their official blog, Executive Deputy President of Sony Kazuo Hirai confirmed the restored functionality to PSN across Playstation 3 and PSP, noting that users will have to change their password upon restoring their service. He added that the system’s security updates include “advanced security technology, increased levels of encryption, additional firewalls, and early warning detection systems for any unusual activity that could signal an attack on the network”.
For now nline multiplayer capabilities are restored as this phased restoration continues on a country by country basis. No specific times have been given for each region, but you can check out the progress on the Playstation Blog map if you’re feeling antsy.
PRIORITIES. THIS GUY HAS THEM.

The New Castle Crashers Knight Will Tickle You Pink
People want the pink. Which is something we’re all aware of, but in this case I was a little surprised. By popular demand, a new Knight is joining PSN’s Castle Crasher roster, in a tantalizing shade of candy pink. Along with the new hue, this addition brings a total of four new weapons, including a lollipop!
And while the new Knight’s February 8 release is conveniently timed right before Valentine’s Day, 100% of the $1.99 price will go towards breast cancer research. Behemoth also assures that there will be a version coming out for XBLA’s Castle Crashers in the coming weeks.

Flashback: X-men Arcade “Soon” for XBLA & PSN
Marvel released the news at New York Comic Con that they will bring X-men (the arcade version) to PSN and XBLA. The price was undetermined, and the dates were unannounced. But they’re totally gonna do it.
Joystiq called Dazzler, so I’m calling Wolverine. Back off, Jean Grey.
Castle Crashers Gets PSN Release Date
Beach volleyball season may soon be ending, but your virtual version is only beginning. The PSN version of Castle Crashers, which brings with it the exclusive beach volleyball mini game based, now has an official release date of August 31. That puts it head to head with Wii hard hitter Metroid: Other M. Will you take a quirky medieval adventure, or a cold trip in space? Decisions decisions (me, I decide to buy both).

Aug 10 DLC Releases: Red Dead Redemption & Scott Pilgrim
Red Dead Redemption comes out next week with their first DLC, Legends and Killers. For $9.99 for PSN and 800 Microsoft Points ($10 in USD) you’ll get 9 muliplayer maps, 8 new multiplayer characters, the Tomahawk weapon (I’m guessing it’s a thrown knife, just a wild guess though) and achievements and trophies to go along with them.
Some of the multiplayer characters include those from Red Dead Revolver, the 2004 predecessor to Redemption. In the screen shot you can see Buffalo Solider (real subtle Rockstar), Mr. Kelley, and Shadow Wolf.
PSN comes out with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game next Tuesday for $9.99, which is right before the Friday the 13th movie premier. You can get extra goodies by “preordering” the game and get an avatar tshirt. Just pointing it out in case your too lazy to read the picture.
As I cried big fat emo tears about before, XBLA won’t have it until the 25th, for 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15 in real monies. Why? Why do you hate us XBOXers so much? Don’t you know we’re poor after our third RROD?
Scott Pilgrim: PSN, XBOX Live, Movie Premiere — Oh My!
Even though I’m a Portlander, I didn’t get swept up in the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World until the movie trailer. Now I’m ready to cash in my life’s savings. I’ve know about it for maybe a total of two weeks, but I need it to live. My preciouseseses….
The final comic book was released on July 20th, the PSN game will be out on August 10th for $9.99, and the movie will premier August 13th. And for some reason, probably to pay for my many sins, the XLBA version doesn’t come out until August 25th. This is how you repay me, XBOX? I brag to my friends at how much better you are than PS3, and you do THIS to me?!! I may have to go evil ex on your ass, XBOX. If you missed the E3 2010 trailer, check it out below.

All Things Sonic 4: Episode 1 E3 2010

As an old school Sonic fan (my debut game as a gamer was Sonic the Hedgehog 2), I was very excited to get my hands Sonic 4. I played the first level of Sonic 4: Episode 1 on day one. Things to love: it looks and feels exactly like an old school Sonic game. You know, minus the whole high res thing. It was nice to see a return to the 2D side scrolling, and the execution was familiar enough for an old fan such as myself. Things to hate: the targeting system. It was unnecessary and clunked up the screen. I don’t need a target to guide me to a bumper, I really don’t (Tanooki editor-in-chief Christian somewhat disagreed with me, saying he liked being able to string together enemy combos, as featured in an earlier Sonic title). I didn’t stick around long enough to find out if you could turn the target system off, but if that is an option, then Sonic 4 gets my seal of approval. And that seal of approval is also contingent upon the real reaction time on the controls; the response was slow when I played it on the XBOX 360, but that might have been from the beatings the controller was taking from repeated demos. I will also point out that the level design might turn some people off as being “too much” like the original. Even the name, “Splash Hill Zone”, could have been from the cutting room floor of Sonic 2. There will be few surprises, if any.

Alien Hominid Will Be Available On Castle Crashers PSN
Alien Hominid, the titular character from, uh…Alien Hominid, was playable in the XBLA version of Castle Crashers as a thank you to fans who bought AH. So naturally, there was the question of whether he’d be playable in the upcoming PSN version, as the PS3’s lack of backward compatibility makes it impossible to tell whether someone has purchased Alien Hominid for PS2.
Well, Behemoth is pleased to announce that our little bug eyed friend (can we call him Al?) will indeed be available on the PSN download of Castle Crashers. Said Kelly from their dev blog:
It would be unfair to starve our earlier supporters – so we are going to attempt what is the most fair and make the logical assumption that by this point everyone has PS2 Alien Hominid, right?
Of course. I for one did. And I totally wouldn’t lie about that just to piggy back on the fruits of other people’s foresight and good taste. No way.
Castle Crashers Volleyball Mini Game Footage From PSN
Castle Crashers for PSN footage! And it’s the volleyball minigame for PS3! If you don’t want to watch it ‘cause you’re lazy or at work or whatever your lousy excuse is, I can sum it up thusly: they have new little courts and environments and stuff. No release date yet with this update from Behemoth, but they did tell us about two new trophies, You Are Insane for beating the game on Insane Mode, and Social Networker for successfully completing an unspecified number of volleys in the volleyball minigame with a friend.
Oh and here’s some screen shots. I chose the prettiest, most colorful, and therefore most interesting, ones. Check out more at the Behemoth Development blog link below.
