Scott Pilgrim Books on Super Sale At Amazon
Amazon.com currently has 6 of the Scott Pilgrim comics graphic novels on sale, for less than $25 total.
I’ve read the first two books, and they seemed very similar to the movie (which I saw first) but I’m assured that the rest of the books start taking a different direction. I was also told, vaguely, that the ending is “much different.”
So if you didn’t go see the movie, or buy the game, now’s your chance for redemption. But if you don’t, you’re not allowed to complain that there isn’t enough gamer culture.
Scott Pilgrim Out on XLBA Yesterday, Contains Extra Content Codes
So yesterday marked the end of the long wait for XLBA to release their version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. And for $15, $5 more than the PSN version which was released 15 days earlier (I hope punching in my credit card number angrily on my keypad proved how mad I was at you, XBOX).
It’s an awesome game, with great throwbacks to games of old, including a “subspace highway” that includes “faulty code” on the screen, as if the game glitched out. When you exit the game to return to the dashboard, it does this little blip thing—something I never would have thought of, but is totally reminiscent of NES games. It makes me want to blow it (dear Bryan O’Malley…..)
The game even comes with “cheat” codes, entered at the start screen. There’s zombie mode —- down, up, right, down, up, right, down, up, right, right, right then the punch button. Boss Rush mode is unlocked using right, right, B, R1, right, right, B, R1.
Now I want to try the Konami code. I think I’m feeling, cough cough, ill. I think I need to, cough, go home from work early. Cough, cough cough. Yeaaaaaa.
Scott Pilgrim vs. The Box Office

So Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is getting a lot of flak for not doing great this weekend. What did you really expect? Next to the cast from the retirement home for action actors Expendables, and Julia Roberts in Every Chick Flick You’ve Seen Ever, it didn’t stand a snowball’s chance in hell.
Here’s why you should go see it.
First of all, it was hilarious. The geekier you are, the funnier it is. I let out a heartfelt sigh when they played Legend of Zelda music in one of his dreams; it was beautiful and fit perfectly for the scene, but I kept having visions of Navi. In the fight with the Katayanagi twins, they turned it up to jyu-ichi, which is Japanese for eleven. I almost wet myself laughing. The visuals are stunning. The flashbacks used the comic book art, which was a nice way for the movie to refer back to its origins. The little pop ups are funny too — one point, someone says to a dumb jock, “You’re incorrigible” to which he replies with his blue steel look, “I don’t know the meaning of the word.” Then the little pop up says “He doesn’t really know the meaning of the word.” I got the gist of the joke, but I liked the way they made it hit home
And I don’t just mean the pop ups when I talk about the visuals. There’s some subtle artsy shots that really emphasized the scenes. There’s a scene where he’s trying to talk to Ramona for the first time.
The cropped picture doesn’t do this scene any justice: the wall seems like it’s a hundred feet high, and the light switch is somewhere near the ceiling. It gives the scene that overbearing feeling, like you’re a dumb little kid trying to….well, trying to hit on that girl that you really like. In short, art critic says yay!
Okay, now what I didn’t like. Don’t kill me for this: Ramona. Ack! I said —ow ow ow let me EXPLAIN! Ramona’s character in the movie was very bland. She just comes off as an aloof, bitchy hipster kid. We’re just supposed to assume that she’s the perfect girl for him, without actually seeing much of reasons as to why she’s perfect for him.
Every movie that’s adapted from a book has the same problem though. Books have so much more time to delve into feelings, and relationships, and past encounters. Character development takes a lot of time.
But that just means one thing: Time to read the comic books.
Aug 10 DLC Releases: Red Dead Redemption & Scott Pilgrim
Red Dead Redemption comes out next week with their first DLC, Legends and Killers. For $9.99 for PSN and 800 Microsoft Points ($10 in USD) you’ll get 9 muliplayer maps, 8 new multiplayer characters, the Tomahawk weapon (I’m guessing it’s a thrown knife, just a wild guess though) and achievements and trophies to go along with them.
Some of the multiplayer characters include those from Red Dead Revolver, the 2004 predecessor to Redemption. In the screen shot you can see Buffalo Solider (real subtle Rockstar), Mr. Kelley, and Shadow Wolf.
PSN comes out with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game next Tuesday for $9.99, which is right before the Friday the 13th movie premier. You can get extra goodies by “preordering” the game and get an avatar tshirt. Just pointing it out in case your too lazy to read the picture.
As I cried big fat emo tears about before, XBLA won’t have it until the 25th, for 1200 Microsoft Points, or $15 in real monies. Why? Why do you hate us XBOXers so much? Don’t you know we’re poor after our third RROD?
Scott Pilgrim: PSN, XBOX Live, Movie Premiere — Oh My!
Even though I’m a Portlander, I didn’t get swept up in the Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World until the movie trailer. Now I’m ready to cash in my life’s savings. I’ve know about it for maybe a total of two weeks, but I need it to live. My preciouseseses….
The final comic book was released on July 20th, the PSN game will be out on August 10th for $9.99, and the movie will premier August 13th. And for some reason, probably to pay for my many sins, the XLBA version doesn’t come out until August 25th. This is how you repay me, XBOX? I brag to my friends at how much better you are than PS3, and you do THIS to me?!! I may have to go evil ex on your ass, XBOX. If you missed the E3 2010 trailer, check it out below.
