Cities: Skylines – Education Edition is the first title to come from this partnership

Colossal Order’s Cities: Skylines is coming to classrooms thanks to a new partnership between publisher Paradox Interactive and educational tech brand TeacherGaming.

Having already delivered MinecraftEdu (also known as Minecraft: Education Edition) and KerbalEdu (the educational version of Kerbal Space Program), TeacherGaming is now distributing Cities: Skylines – Education Edition to schools, with more Paradox titles to come later through TeacherGaming’s subscription service.

The Education Edition of the city-building game launched a couple of days ago, on May 29th, “with eight custom-made lesson scenarios, touching upon topics from sustainable city planning to active citizenship and the Human Development Index,” the announcement said. Teachers will also be able to track their students progress through the game, which will also include “in-game tutorials customised for the classroom environment”.

Shams Jorjani, VP of business development at Paradox Interactive commented: “Transitioning our games into teaching tools that make learning fun and interactive is something near and dear to our hearts at Paradox Interactive. We chose TeacherGaming to help structure our games for the classroom, because this is a new field for us and they have the right experience and knowledge to do it right.”

TeacherGaming CEO Santeri Koivisto said: “Paradox Interactive titles turn niche topics like civics and serious history into unexpectedly entertaining experiences that educators will fall head over heels for. Committing to such an unconventional portfolio means Paradox Interactive is combating prejudices about the very nature of video games, and that’s also what we have been out to do for the past seven years. In that sense, and many others, this partnership is a perfect fit.”

Schools interested in TeacherGaming’s games, lessons and prices (which starts at $150 per school/year) can learn more on the firm’s website.
